WTC MACAU ATTENDS WTCA GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2012

    Mr Alberto Marçal, President of the Executive Committee of the WTC Macau, attended the 43rd General Assembly of World Trade Center Association held in Moscow from 22 to 26 September.

As a key annual event of the WTCA, this year's general assembly mainly focused on topics related to global economy, market environment in Moscow, and the establishment of collaborative partnership. Representatives from the WTCs around the world are invited to the event, at which they were joined by government officials, members of various trade and entrepreneur associations, people from the industries, and businessmen. The new board of directors was also elected during the assembly period.

THE WORLD TRADE CENTRE MACAU ARBITRATION CENTER PRESENTS "MEDIATION COURSE"

    The World Trade Centre Macau Arbitration Centre ran a 40-hour mediation course for three consecutive weekends from 25 August to 9 September 2012. Taught by professional mediators from Hong Kong, the course attracted the enthusiastic participation of registrants from a range of different industries who are interested in mediation.

Over the course of the mediation classes, the instructors leveraged their perspectives and unique insights as experienced and practicing mediators to break down complex topics into easy-to-understand lessons. The course also went beyond theory, in providing students with hands-on training opportunities in certain sections.

Being an alternative non-contentious means of resolution, conciliation process is not only flexible, cost effective and speedy, but also an effective way that ultimately leads to an amicable settlement between the dispute parties. By introducing this training course, the WTC Macau aims to raise the public awareness of mediation and to enhance the application of conciliation process for resolving disputes in Macao.

 

WTC MACAU ATTENDS THE ANNUAL APPRECIATION LUNCH MEETING IN SINGAPORE

   M r Alberto Marçal, Vice President of the General Council of the WTC Macau Arbitration Center, attended the 2012 Annual Appreciation Lunch held by the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) in Singapore on 17 July.

The celebration began with the welcome address by Honourable Justice Belinda Ang Saw Ean, Chairperson of the SMC, who acknowledged the contributions made by the SMC's supporters, including mediators, law firms, local and foreign ADR partners, counterparts and the SMC team.

The event was attended by some 200 guests, including the judges and judicial commissioners of the Supreme Court, mediators of the SMC, prominent members of the legal and other professions and delegates from neighboring countries and regions such as Qatar and Macao.

WTC Macau Arbitration Center signed a cooperation agreement with Singapore Mediation Centre in 2011, with the objective of promoting cooperation and development of mediation and alternative dispute resolution procedures in Singapore and Macao.

 

WTCA BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE OF ASIA, PAYS OFFICIAL VISIT TO WTC MACAU

    President of WTC Macau's Executive Committee Mr Alberto Marçal attended the opening ceremony of Nanjing World Trade Center on behalf of our centre on 26-27 February this year.

Besides guests from WTCs of Moscow, Istanbul, Kentucky and regions of the Greater China, the WTC Nanjing also invited the Mayor of Nanjing, representatives of San Diego Port and trade promotion councils, and government officials to witness the center's opening.

Scheduled to complete by 2014, the 1500-sqm WTC Nanjing office building will provide facilities such as venues for conferences, video conference rooms and office for its Chief Executive Officer. Upon completion, the building will become a new landmark of urban Nanjing.
