WTC MACAU ARBITRATION CENTER AND THE SHANGHAI ARBITRATION COMMISSION ESTABLISH CLOSE TIES OF CO-OPERATION
President of the General Council of World Trade Center Macau Arbitration Center Vitor Ng, Secretary-General Ivan Fong and President of WTC Macau Alberto Marçal paid an official visit to Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SAC) in Shanghai on 25 July 2008. The delegation from Macau was warmly welcome by Chairman of SAC Xu Qiang, Vice-President Lu Fang, Deputy Director and Chief Secretary-General Wang Kangwu and Deputy Secretary-General Huo Zhengmei who took the opportunity to provide an inside view of the Center’s operations and also to show the supporting facilities, including tribunal courts.
The visit aimed at reinforcing communication and mutual development with SAC through co-operation. In the meeting, both parties exchanged views and opinions on interested topics and based on mutual consent on strengthening liaison and relationship, a memorandum of understanding will be signed by both parties in the near future.
|WTC MACAU AND MACAO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOLD ATA CARNET IMPLEMENTATION WORKSHOP|
Given the benefits that the implementation of the ATA carnet system will bring to Macau, especially in speeding up the integration of Macau into the international business community and creating a more attractive business environment for investment, trade, culture, sports, exhibitions and conventions, the World Trade Center Macau and the Macao Chamber of Commerce co-organised the “ATA Carnet Implementation Workshop” on January 22 and 23, 2008.
The workshop’s guest speaker, Mrs. Lee Ju Song, ICC Asia Director and ATA Carnet Consultant for Asia, introduced the participants the advantages of the ATA Carnet system. She indicated that the simplification of customs procedures for duty-free temporary importation of a wide range of goods into 65 member countries of the ATA international guarantee chain can enable Macau to create a more attractive business environment and help our Customs Authorities to better administer Temporary Admission. She also introduced the technological procedures in implementing the ATA Carnet System, including its application, administration and Customs Clearance procedures.
More than 100 guests attended the workshop, including the President and members of the WTC Macau Board of Directors, President and members of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, representatives of banks and Macau government officials, namely Macao Customs Service, Economic Services and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute.
|WTC MACAU ARBITRATION CENTER AND MACAO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE JOINTLY HOLD TALK ON DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS|
In conjunction with the Macao Chamber of Commerce, WTC Macau Arbitration Center held a seminar entitled “Talk on Dispute Resolution in International Construction Contracts” on 11 March 2008.
The guest speaker, Mr. Jason Fry, who works as the Secretary-General of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), shared his expertise in international arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, with a special focus on construction disputes and the ICC’s xperience.
The ICC International Court of Arbitration has a distinguished and long-standing 85 years of history of international business and commercial disputes resolution. In 2007 alone it received almost 600 requests for arbitration from all over the world.
WTC Macau Arbitration Center arbitrators, members of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, representatives of Macau government officials, local associations, attorney offices, banks and consulting companies participated in this seminar.
